When you ask your child what they did in school today and they say, "Nothing"... check back here to see what we did in science or social studies class. I will post a brief description of our work and your child can fill in the rest.

Run-A-Thon
**** Check your child's mail from school****
They were given the electives to choose from for next year (Mt. Hebron/Buzz Aldrin . They made their choices today and handed in those in. Don't worry, they have the same sheet to fill out with you. There are course descriptions, but if you are unsure about any of them... call Mt. Hebron or ask someone that has been in that school in the last couple of years. Parents need to sign and the student will return that elective sheet. It will replace the one they filled out today. My guess... they do that so that if a kid never brings back the signed copy, they will still have electives. However... parent signed copies get first priority.
I am honored to have received the Weston Teaching Award tonight. I put in 110% everyday, because I truly love teaching and It is a fabulous bonus to be recognized for all my hard work. Thanks to all the parents and students that took the time to write a heartfelt recommendation. Thanks to all the parents and students that have said "great job" along the way this year. It really means more than you can imagine.
If you are interested in CAD/3D Printing Summer Camp, download and fill out these forms (need to be in tomorrow - June 3rd)

Half way to completing the first Chromebook DonorsChoose... Chromebooks Part 1
NY Post 5/11/2016
The students had the best field trip ever today (their words). We went to Medieval Times to see a presentation that promoted chivalry with an anti-bullying message. It was an interesting lesson and who better to help the kids understand this lesson than a king, a queen and knights.
April 21st - A few weeks ago, I posted a DonorsChoose project for Hokki Stools (the kids absolutely love these) and Science World Magazine (the kids love these… almost as much as the stools). So many of you generously and quickly met the needs of those projects and others asked if there was anything else that we needed in class… Chromebooks.
Chromebooks are a great tool for school work. They are not as powerful as our Mac Air Books, but we don’t need or use all that power. Chromebooks are what the students are using in the middle and high schools, because they are made for Google Docs. Your child has a Google Docs account and they have been shown how it works. If we can get these Chromebooks, your kids will start getting real experience using Google Docs and that is a good thing.
For Science and Social Studies, we only have use of the laptops once a week (Monday). This is another reason why these Chromebooks would be great. We would have access to the internet for research and word processing/presentations/spread sheets. Not that every lesson, every day would have the students using the Chromebooks. We could could pull them out for 10 or 15 minutes… or more, but we would have them whenever we need them.
Ideally, 24 Chromebooks is what we need, but I know this may be a lot to ask. That is why I have set up three projects (each one is for eight Chromebooks).
Chromebooks Part 1
I will send out the others if/when this one is filled.
Thanks in advance!!!

PARCC down... We were not able to take the PARCC on Wednesday, because of technical issues. Not our issue, but state wide. You kids just went back to their regular schedule of classes yesterday and everything worked out fine. PARCC was back online yesterday (at some point), so we will be taking the assessment this morning. The missing day will be made up on Monday.
Rain or shine (it will be rain) we will be walking up to Montclair State University tomorrow to visit their 3D lab and see how the college students are using the 3D design. BRING AN UMBRELLA OR RAIN JACKET... OR BOTH!!!
My two cents... From what I saw and what the students had to say... PARCC last year was not overwhelming or anywhere near that feeling. I think we all heard so much about the "test" that we built it up in our minds. I am sure we will all do well again this year.

Take a look at our new arrivals... everyone got a chance to try them out during class...
I realized that I haven't written about music. When appropriate, I play music for the students. Background kind of thing. We do listen to the Top 10 on Friday (just snippets of each song), but that is not the usual music. Today, I played John Coltrane. Last week was the Clash (London Calling), Beatle (Sgt. Pepper's), Nirvana (Nevermind), Metallica (Black) and Bob Marley (Legend). We cover it all in this class!
We should all have a picture like this hanging in our homes!

Why do we have your children give presentations in all classes...
What's new...
I added some books that are related to or referenced in class. These can be found under the Social Studies tab.
There is a new tab with comics that some of the students have created. Some are related to the work in class and some are just fun.
A new tab has also been added that has links to the videos that I show in class. These are not the type that you remember from your time in school... they are song parodies. The kids love these, sing them and surprise.... they actually learn! Check them out.
Friday, October 30th, is our Halloween Parade and Party!!!
The students should bring their costumes with them tomorrow. They can leave it in my class (I will have a safe place ready) or they can leave it in their locker. The parade begins at 2:00. The party will follow. All family are invited to the parade and party. You can sign your child out from the party, so you don't have to wait outside for dismissal. Just an FYI... no weapons (toy guns, swords, light sabers...), no masks that cover the students face and they should be able to get into their costumes on their own (no help from Mr. Liddy or Ms. Cedro).
Get ready to PARTY!!!
